Surrounding Mountains
Pirin
Pirin is the second highest mountain in Bulgaria and the sixth in Europe -- alpine in nature with many lakes, shelters and chalets. The highest peak is Vihren (2914 m). From the north, the Oreljak peak with its marble beauty resembles an eagle with its wings spread. The air is crystal clear, and the views are breathtaking.
Rila
The Rila Mountain takes its name from the Thracian word "roula" which means "plenty of water". The Rila National Park was established to preserve the mountain beauty and the traditions that link it to the local residents. The Musala peak (2925 m) is the highest peak in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula. One could mountain hike by its majestic lakes making the passes an unforgettable experience.
Rhodopa
The Rhodopa Mountain is one of the earliest mountain formations. Nature has sculpted incredible masterpieces in the form of caves, passes, arches, pyramid- and mushroom-like rock formations -- the Tsarigrad zdrelo, the Devil's thoat (Djavolsko garlo), Uhlovitsa, the Jagodin cave, the Chudnite mostove (the Amazing bridges). The crystal clear water of the Chaira lake and the Dospat and Batak dams add to the majestic beauty of the Rhodopa mountain.
